Titled Ghost Light, it’s choreographed by Mick Jagger’s partner, Melanie Hamrick, and Joanna DeFelice, and is raising funds and awareness for Acting for Others, a network of 14 charities that provides financial and emotional support for theatre workers.

“We wait for our curtains to rise again”

“Without more help and support from the UK government, our arts industry as we know it will cease to exist,” says the accompanying text. “We have made this short dance video to raise awareness for our theatres and institutions that need your support…please consider donating to this vital organisation while we wait for our curtains to rise again. No amount is too small…thank you from the bottom of our hearts!” You can donate to the Just Giving fund here.

Mirroring the lockdown mood of the song and its own video, the clip shows dancers performing on empty streets and outside famous institutions such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Apollo Theatre, all currently closed.

The special edit of ‘Living In A Ghost Town’ is by Jagger and his longtime collaborator Matt Clifford, and ends with the song’s prominent and all too topical line “Life was so beautiful, then we all got locked down.”

The dancers from the Royal Ballet featured in the film are William Bracewell, Reece Clarke, David Donnelly, Teo Dubreuil, Nicol Edmonds, Tierney Heap, Meaghan Grace Hinkis, Fumi Kaneko, Yasmine Naghdi, Anna Rose O’Sullivan and Leticia Stock.

Hamrick also produced Ghost Light with Hinkis, and the pair served as creative directors along with DeFelice. She, in turn, oversaw the video edit with Matt Pennington.

Yesterday (7) saw the release of the last in the Rolling Stones’ series of Extra Licks films of live bonus footage, each of them presented as part of YouTube’s #StayHome campaign.
