Built around glimmering gospel guitar chords, “Lucky” is a return to the melodic form that caught the attention of NJOMZA’s listeners early in her career.

The track’s visual opens with a smooth transition from black and white home videos recorded during the singer’s childhood to a recording of her standing in a recording studio. Throughout the video, NJOMZA sings with a voice permeated with care and appreciation.

“Let me say I love you, right now / Give you all your flowers, right now / I don’t wanna wait ’til it’s too late / Let me tell you how I’m so proud / Show you how I feel, I’ll scream it loud / I don’t wanna wait ’til it’s too late,” she croons on the track.

Of the track, NJOMZA has said: “Writing it was a form of therapy for me. I truly hope it makes you feel something – anything like the way it made me feel while making it.”

The song and visual paint a picture of heartfelt memories and emotional losses, encouraging listeners to act in the moment and not take anything, or anyone, for granted.

“Lucky” follows up NJOMZA’s cheeky single “Bite” from earlier this year. Blurring the lines of pop and R&B, the singer’s 2017 project, Sad For You, and 2018 release, Vacation, drew both critical acclaim and commercial success for her work.

The singer is also scheduled to take part in the Grammy Museum’s Spotlight Saturdays, the museum’s virtual program series featuring up-and-coming artists in sit-down interviews and performances every Saturday on its new streaming platform, ‘COLLECTION:live.’

Signed to Mac Miller’s REMember Music label as a teenager before signing to SinceThe80s/Motown/Capitol Records, NJOMZA was a featured songwriter on Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next hits “7 Rings” and “Thank U, Next.” Her music has been streamed over 50 million times globally.
