DREAMERS Throws An Early Funeral Party On New Single ‘Black Confetti’
‘This song is about throwing a party to celebrate your own death,’ frontman Nick Wold says.
On their latest single “Black Confetti,” alternative band DREAMERS are putting a pop rock twist on the usually grim notion of a funeral, turning it into a party. The track arrives via Hollywood Records as the follow up to “Upgrade,” the Los Angeles-via-Brooklyn band’s collaboration with Twin XL.
“This song is about throwing a party to celebrate your own death,” frontman Nick Wold says of the record in a statement. “I always figured the fact that we will one day die is a scary concept, but we could either brush it under the rug and try not to think about it, or we could face it head-on and really think about it, so we can start getting used to it. This is why I read a ton of existential literature when I was younger.”
On “Black Confetti,” the chorus offers a moment of hope for the future at the sight of momentary despair: “It’s gonna be alright / It’s a bittersweet kind of lie / And I watch you go / Your troubles don’t seem so heavy / And the future don’t seem so deadly / You’re gonna live like you’re dead already / Throw a party with black confetti.”
“Black Confetti” was written by DREAMERS’ Nick Wold, Marc Nelson, and Jacob Lee Wick with Austin Woodward and Brett Truitt. The track was produced by Raziel and Lucky West.
Wold adds: “I figured I might as well mourn myself now and then get over it, and that always felt right. Realizing that we will die makes us appreciate life. Maybe that’s why some of us goth out and dress all in black. We are dressed for our own funerals and remembering that every moment is precious.”
