Carly Rae Jepsen Shares Hypnotic New Single ‘Western Wind’
The track sees the acclaimed pop star reunite with collaborator Rostam Batmanglij
Carly Rae Jepsen has shared her highly-anticipated, hypnotic new single “Western Wind,” her first piece of new material since her 2020 Christmas release.
The new track finds the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter reuniting with collaborator Rostam Batmanglij, with whom she worked on her critically-lauded and culture-shaping 2015 album E*MO*TION. Batmanglij produced and co-wrote the new track, continuing the pair’s creative relationship.
“Comin’ in like a western wind/Do you feel home from all directions?” Jepsen sings on the warm, sunkissed song. “First bloom, you know it’s spring/Remindin’ me, love, that it’s all connected/Comin’ in like a western wind.”
The single is accompanied by a music video, which finds the star dancing through beautiful, grassy landscapes and singing from the boughs of leafy trees. Much like the song itself, it embodies a charmed quality that invites a certain daydreaming on the part of the listener and viewer.

According to a press release, Jepsen has revealed that the song emerged from the deep solitude of quarantine, a period of time that compelled her toward her most introspective songwriting yet.
“Western Wind” began to make waves last month when the beloved pop star gave it its live debut during her highly celebrated set at Coachella 2022, which saw her perform to a packed tent. The song’s premiere earned immediate attention from leading music outlets, including Pitchfork, Stereogum and The Fader.
In 2020, Jepsen surprised fans with a Dedicated ‘Side B’ collection, which arrived around one year after her previous studio album, Dedicated. ‘Side B’ represented a continuation of its predecessor, which scored a Top 20 hit on both the US Billboard 200 and Jepsen’s native Canadian charts. Its release was preceded by the release of the singles ‘Party for One’, ‘Now That I Found You’, ‘No Drug Like Me’ and ‘Too Much’. To support the album Jepsen embarked on ‘The Dedicated Tour’ with dates in Europe, North America and Asia.
