Country star Billy Currington has shared a new song. Written by Currington’s late longtime collaborator Troy Jones, “King of the World” celebrates a laid-back summer feeling: “I got the radio playing and my boat while I float/Take a toke while I listen to Merle,” he sings over a mellow guitar. “A hot sun, cold one, I’ll be son of a gun/I’m king of the world.” “King of the World” is out now via Mercury Nashville.

Currington is spending the summer on the road alongside fellow country hitmaker Kip Moore, who released the album Solitary Tracks earlier this year. The United States tour includes 16 stops in major cities like Austin’s Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park on August 2 and Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on September 19, as well as a performance at Ohio’s Voices of America Country Music Fest on August 7. The tour features support from Marlon Funaki, an emerging guitar player whose work channels soul and psychedelic rock. Funaki released an EP titled Overdue in March.

Over two decades, Currington has tallied 12 country No. 1 singles including multi-platinum hits like “People Are Crazy,” “Good Directions,” “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right,” “Do I Make You Wanna,” and “We Are Tonight.”

The Georgia songwriter’s discography began with his self-titled 2003 debut, which featured the hits “I Got a Feelin’” and “Walk a Little Straighter,” which drew on personal experiences of family and addiction. His last album was 2021’s Intuition. His seventh full-length explored ’80s synth-pop, dance music, and R&B. In 2023, he shared a pair of songs titled “Anchor Man” and “City Don’t,” which returned to his more traditional country sound. Last year, he dropped a song called “Everything Is Changing,” a nostalgic track about the passage of time. He also released a career-spanning compilation of his top-charting singles, #1’s Vol. 1.
