Taylor Swift’s ‘Cruel Summer’ Surpasses Three Billion Spotify Streams
The standout cut was featured on her 2019 album ‘Lover.’

Taylor Swift is ushering in the dog days of summer with another streaming milestone, this time with her 2019 single “Cruel Summer,” featured on her LP Lover. It’s just passed three billion streams on Spotify, one of the few songs to reach that mark.
“Cruel Summer“ has had an interesting ride from its status as a fan favorite from the 2019 album Lover gem to where it is now.
During a 2023 show in Pittsburgh in which she confirmed the song would be released as a single four years after its release, she explained how much the song meant to her. She said: “‘Cruel Summer’—that song was my pride and joy on that album. That was my favorite song.”
At the time, Swift shared two new versions of the song in gratitude for the fans’ support of it. “What a truly mind blowing thing you’ve turned The Eras Tour Concert Film into,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been watching videos of you guys in the theaters, dancing and prancing and recreating choreography, creating inside jokes, casting spells, getting engaged, and just generally creating the exact type of joyful chaos we’re known for.
“One of my favorite things you’ve done was when you supported ‘Cruel Summer’ SO much, I ended up starting The Eras Tour show with it. For old times sake, I’m releasing the live audio from the tour so we can all shriek it in the comfort of our homes and cars PLUS a brand new remix by @lpgiobbi. Thank you, so much, forever, wow, just thank you!!!”
“Cruel Summer” is one of 18 songs that Swift currently has in the Spotify Billions Club. The latest, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” joined the club back in April.
