Lewis says the song is about finding enjoyment in your own company when circumstances leave you alone. He connects that feeling to the loss of a person or something that had become part of your identity. “Lonely Guy” turns that experience toward self-assurance, as Lewis puts it: “But this is an anthem to reclaim how fucking awesome you are.”
Lewis describes his sound as “Grunge Groove,” drawing on soulful R&B, blues, and guitar-driven rock. His music combines those influences with an expressive vocal approach and a distinctive guitar style. The new single follows his debut EP, Mr. Right Now, which arrived this summer. Earlier releases include the song “Mr. Right Now” and “Leaving Me Lonely.”
Lewis first attracted attention by posting cover songs online after interning in Los Angeles with producer Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman. The two later worked together on Lewis’ releases. He is scheduled to perform at the Sound By The Sea festival in Oceanside, California, on December 5.
