Primus Presses ‘Sailing The Seas Of Cheese’ On Liquid Vinyl
The fully playable pressing features a sealed layer of yellow liquid that shifts as the record spins.
Primus is bringing a liquid-filled vinyl edition of its 1991 album Sailing The Seas Of Cheese to record shelves. A sealed layer of yellow liquid, inspired by the album’s name, shifts as the fully playable record spins.
The album was Primus’ second full-length and includes “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver” and “Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers.” “Tommy The Cat” features a vocal appearance by Tom Waits. The album was Primus’ major-label debut, following the independently released Frizzle Fry, and became the record that brought the band wider alternative-rock attention. Contemporary coverage captured its unusual mix of styles: a 1991 review called the music “weird and rather wonderful.” That still holds true today.

The record’s original trio lineup brought together Les Claypool on bass, Larry LaLonde on guitar, and Tim Alexander on drums. On this edition, the title’s cheese reference becomes part of the record’s visual design, with the liquid moving beneath the surface during playback. The liquid does not affect playback, and its appearance and movement may vary from copy to copy. The product description advises avoiding extreme temperatures and unnecessary stress when handling the record.
