Deep Purple, You Me At Six Among Kerrang! Award Winners
Last night’s (June 12) Kerrang! Awards saw old and new rock heroes from Deep Purple to 5 Seconds Of Summer taking home honours. In a star-packed ceremony at the Troxy in London’s East End, awards also went to Fall Out Boy, You Me At Six and Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides.
Hosted by Andrew WK and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, the event saw You Me At Six, whose latest Virgin album ‘Cavalier Youth’ topped the UK charts earlier this year, win the Best British Band category. Fall Out Boy had a triumphant night, taking both Best International Band and Best Event for their Save Rock and Roll tour.
Capitol’s Australian newcomers 5 Seconds Of Summer, who topped the charts both at home and in the UK with ‘She Looks So Perfect’ (going double platinum in their native country in the process), landed the Best International Newcomer title. Biersack, lead vocalist with Californian rockers Black Veil Brides, was the recipient of the Hottest Male award.
Perhaps the biggest moment of a typically raucous night came when Deep Purple were inducted into the Kerrang! Hall Of Fame, joining a list of previous inductees that includes Mötley Crüe, Iron Maiden, Slayer and Machine Head. The rock figureheads were at the ceremony to accept their award, presented by Taylor Momsen of the Pretty Reckless, who herself took home the Hottest Female gong.
Other awards included Status Quo’s Kerrang! Services To Rock title and Bring Me The Horizon as Best Live Band, while the Ramones took the Kerrang! Icon trophy.
