Cher Musical ‘The Cher Show’ Set For 2018 Broadway Debut
The Cher Show, a musical based on the life and career of the singer and actress Cher, is set to make its Broadway debut at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York City in the autumn of 2018.
“My life as a musical on Broadway: It seems crazy, exciting and bizarre – but that’s probably how my life seems to most people,” Cher said in a press statement.
The Cher Show looks to trace the arc of Cher’s six-decade career in entertainment and incorporate a number of her famous contributions to the pop canon. Jason Moore (Avenue Q) is to direct, while Rick Elice wrote the book (Jersey Boys); Christopher Gattelli (Newsies) handled choreography and Daryl Waters (Memphis) served as arranger and musical supervisor. The show is to be produced by Flody Suarez and Jeffrey Seller.

The cast of The Cher Show has not as yet been announced. According to reports in The New York Post, during a read-through of the script earlier this year, three different actresses were slated to play Cher at various points in her career. Before it heads to Broadway, The Cher Show is slated to open for a month in Chicago at the Oriental Theatre on 12 June, 2018.
Cher has been supportive of Broadway’s efforts to bring her multifaceted career to the stage. “Just walked [off] the musical,” she wrote on Twitter in January. “I sobbed and laughed and I was prepared not to like it. The audience clapped after songs and gave it a standing ovation.”
Often referred to as the “Goddess of Pop”, Cher has sold over 100 million records worldwide to date and is the only artist to have registered a Billboard No 1 hit single in each decade from the 1960s to the 2010s. Closer To The Truth, her most recent studio album from 2013 entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No 3 and attracted widespread acclaim.
