Scorpions have cancelled the remainder of their 2017 US tour dates with Megadeth due to vocalist Klaus Meine suffering from “severe laryngitis”.

According to a statement released by the German hard rock veterans, Meine has been advised by top throat specialist in Los Angeles and to rest his voice. Were he to continue with the tour and attempt to battle his laryngitis, it is believed he could risk permanent vocal damage.

In a prepared statement, the band said: “[We] truly hate to disappoint our fans and hope to come back to America soon, but this time we have no choice but to cancel.” Tickets will be refunded at points of purchase.

Scorpions had been scheduled to be honoured on Friday morning (6 October) by Los Angeles City Council at a ceremony at Van Nuys City Hall, but the event was cancelled due to “illness within the band.” The award was to celebrate the band’s contribution to the city’s musical landscape.

Scorpions successfully performed with Megadeth on Saturday night, 7 October, at the Forum in Inglewood, California, but shortly afterwards cancelled their scheduled date in Phoenix, AZ, the following evening.

Scorpions kicked off their North American tour with Megadeth on 14 September at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. The sixteen-date trek, dubbed the Crazy World Tour was intended to celebrate Scorpions’ 1990 LP of the same name. Two of the German rockers’ best-known songs, ‘Winds Of Change’ and ‘Send Me An Angel’, both appear on Crazy World.

Scorpions recently finished recording a couple of new songs for a forthcoming compilation album that will collect the most popular of their ballad-type material. At the time of writing, the band were still due to start a Russian tour on 28 October at the Ice Arena in Sochi before heading to Europe to play dates stretching into December 2017.
