Elton John To Be Honoured At 2018 Grammy Salute

The remarkable musical achievements of Elton John are to be celebrated in a Grammy concert special filmed on 30 January 2018. Elton John: I’m Still Standing — A Grammy Salute will be broadcast later in the year by CBS.
The tribute will be taped two days after the 60th Grammy Awards and is due to feature a stellar line-up of artists. They include Miley Cyrus, Kesha, Miranda Lambert, John Legend, Little Big Town, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Maren Morris, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, and Keith Urban. John himself will also be performing some of his best-loved hits, and further artists will be added to the bill over the next few weeks.
Elton has four Grammy Awards to his name, although perhaps surprisingly the first didn’t arrive until the 29th annual ceremony in 1987, some 17 years after his first big American hit, ‘Your Song.’ At those 1987 awards, he won Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, along with Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, and Stevie Wonder, for ‘That’s What Friends Are For.’
His most recent recognition came at the 43rd Grammys in 2001, when Elton John & Tim Rice’s Aida won for Best Musical Show Album. The year before, he had won the Grammy Legend Award in recognition of his entire, stellar career.
“Sir Elton John is an international music legend who has captivated audiences across generations for more than five decades,” said Neil Portnow, the president and CEO of the Recording Academy. “His creativity, dynamic presence, and melodic virtuosity have positioned him as a cultural icon, and the Recording Academy is pleased to honor his immeasurable contributions to the music community.”
In other news, Elton’s 1973 UK Christmas hit ‘Step Into Christmas’ has just become a top 20 hit there for the first time. It reached No. 24 on first release and has reappeared on the festive charts several times in the digital era. But on the survey announced by the Official Charts Company yesterday (15 December), it raced 63-19.
