‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ And ‘A Star Is Born’ Lead Golden Globes Nominations
Awards season is officially underway with the announcement of the Golden Globes Awards, with two of the biggest films of the year, ‘A Star Is Born’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ leading the pack.
Awards season is officially underway with the announcement of the Golden Globes Awards, with two of the biggest films of the year, A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody leading the pack.
Both films are nominated for Best Picture — Drama, even though they’re both musically-driven. The Best Motion Picture – Musical of Comedy category is dominated by comedies this year.
A Star Is Born has picked up five nominations including Best Motion Picture, Lady Gaga for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, Bradley Cooper for Best Director – Motion Picture and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama and Best Original Song – Motion Picture for ‘Shallow’.
‘Shallow’ also went to No. 1 in the UK and the soundtrack topped the charts in both the UK and US.
The massively successful Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody was also honoured with Best Motion Picture and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for Rami Malek’s buzzworthy role as Freddie Mercury.
A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody weren’t the only soundtracks to nab a nomination. Marvel’s history-making superhero film Black Panther also picked up two nominations, both for Best Original Song for Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s collaborative track ‘All The Stars’ as well as Ludwig Göransson’s score for motion picture score.
The Best Original Song category has some fierce competition with Dolly Parton’s track ‘Girl In The Movies’ from Dumplin, Annie Lennox’s ‘Requiem For a Private War’ from A Private War, and Sigur Rós Jónsi and Troye Sivan’s track ‘Revelation’ from Boy Erased.
The PT Barnum-inspired musical The Greatest Showman cleaned up last year, taking home the Globe for Best Original Song for ‘This Is Me’ and the soundtrack topping the Billboard 200.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga is busy prepping for her two concurrent Las Vegas residencies, ‘Lady Gaga Enigma’ and ‘Jazz and Piano’.
