Midland, the trio who’ve been one of the biggest new country names of the last two years, have returned with their new single ‘Mr. Lonely.’ It comes complete with a line dance video matching the retro feel of the song, written by the band (singer Mark Wystrach, guitarist Jess Carson and bassist Cameron Duddy) with prolific hit writers Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne.
The new song was produced by McAnally, Osborne and Dann Huff and has appearances by Luke Cutchen, lead guitarist in Midland’s touring band, on electric guitar and one of Nashville’s most celebrated and in-demand pedal steel players, Paul Franklin.
The release of ‘Mr. Lonely’ comes just ahead of the 2019 ACM (Academy of Country Music) Awards this coming Sunday (7 April), at which the band are nominated for Group of the Year and Video of the Year. They’ll be hoping to continue the momentum of the 2018 event, at which they were named Best New Vocal Duo or Group.
Those awards and nominations are in recognition of Midland’s achievements with their 2017 debut album for Big Machine, On The Rocks, which contained their signature, breakthrough hit ‘Drinkin’ Problem’ as well as the chart singles ‘Make A Little’ and ‘Burn Out.’
Midland were in action at the recent South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, in their home state of Texas, where they performed two new songs at a Recording Academy block party on 14 March. They’re continuing their headlining Electric Rodeo Tour and, after hugely successful visits to the UK for the 2018 C2C Festival and their own dates at the end of the year, they’ll cross the Atlantic again for another set of shows in December 2019.
