Fellow Big Machine Label Group stars Lady A and Thomas Rhett have shared a lyric video for their new collaboration “Heroes.” The song features on the Ocean Deluxe Edition, the just-released, expanded version of Lady A’s 2019 studio album.

Rhett and the trio’s Charles Kelley wrote the song with Jesse Frasure, Julian Bunetta, Sean Douglas, and Joe London. The emotional song pays tribute to fallen idols, with such lyrics as “All of my heroes keep dying/Lord, may they rest in peace/So here’s to the songs that will always live on/From now until eternity.”

There’s a nod to Kenny Rogers, one of the great artists who passed away during 2020, and his smash hit with Dolly Parton, “Islands In The Stream.” It also makes reference to other much-missed artists from beyond the world of country, including Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Tom Petty, Kurt Cobain, and Tupac Shakur.

The new version of Ocean includes six extra tracks, including “Let It Be Love (At Home Version)” and a live version of the album’s No.1 single “What If I Never Get Over You,” recorded at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville.

Rhett’s current solo single “What’s Your Country Song,” released on November 11 as a preview of his upcoming fifth studio album, also makes reference to many great country landmarks of the past. It acknowledges songs by the likes of Alabama, Alan Jackson, Hank Williams, Garth Brooks, Ricky Skaggs, and Rhett’s father, sometime co-writer and erstwhile country hitmaker Rhett Akins.

Rhett and his wife will be the hosts of the CMA Country Christmas special, airing November 30 on ABC. It’s now been confirmed that Rhett will premiere “Christmas In The Country” on the show, while Lady A will sing Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” and the Beach Boys’ “Little Saint Nick,” both also on the Ocean Deluxe Edition.

Little Big Town will perform “Christmas Time Is Here,” Tim McGraw will sing “It Wasn’t His Child,” and Darius Rucker and Lindsey Stirling remake “What Child Is This?”. Kelsea Ballerini will deliver her take on “Santa Baby” and Gabby Barrett “The First Noel.” Also featured are two further world premieres, of Dan + Shay’s “Christmas Isn’t Christmas,” and Florida Georgia Line’s “Lit This Year.”

The Ocean Deluxe Edition can be bought here.
