Pachyman, the LA-based multi-instrumentalist Pachy García, has released a new single, “Toward The Mountain.” Inspired by eastern reggae, “Towards The Mountain” combines traditional sonics with Pachyman’s unique touch.

The new single follows the previously released track “All Night Long” featuring Winter, which arrived with a special 7-inch vinyl.

Speaking about “Towards The Mountain,” Pachyman says, “Since a very young age I was fascinated with the far-east sound in early reggae. Chinese-Jamaican producers Herman Chin-Loy and Clive Chin brought these harmonic influences to the music and musicians like Augustus Pablo and Tommy McCook explored more on these themes. With this tune I wanted to achieve the early far-east sound found in an Aquarius Records release but I also wanted to deconstruct the rhythmic patterns that were commonly used at the time and rearrange them to create something fresh.”

To kick off his North American tour dates, Pachyman is set to perform his debut headlining show in New York City tonight (March 30) at Baby’s All Right before embarking on a string of tour dates supporting Genesis Owusu preceding his dates with Altin Gün this April. Pachyman will also make appearances at the Friday Cheers festival in Richmond, VA on June 3 and 80/35 Festival in Des Moines, IA on July 8.

“Towards The Mountain” marks Pachyman’s second offering of 2022 and follows his recent sound clash session on Vans Channel 66 with the legendary dub musician Scientist, in which Pachy and Scientist played their own dubs back to back. The single also follows his third studio album, The Return of Pachyman, released last year via ATO Records. The Return of Pachyman was inspired by the old-school Caribbean reggae García fell in love with while growing up in San Juan, Puerto Rico and features stand-out tracks “El Benson” and “Destroy The Empire.” With The Return of Pachyman, García wanted to show how the Caribbean flow is transnational, a vibe that resounds from Jamaica to San Juan to Southern California.
