Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers Announce North American Tour Dates
Marley released his first solo album in eight years, ‘Brightside,’ earlier this year.
Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers are hitting the road this fall. The group has announced a North American tour, set to kick off on September 17 and stop in cities including New York, Austin, Asheville, and more.
The tour comprises a number of solo headlining shows, co-headlining shows with Southern jam rockers Gov’t Mule, and a few outdoor festival dates. Among the festivals on the docket are Sea.Hear.Now in Asbury Park, Ravinia Festival in Chicago, and MEMPHO Fest in Memphis. The run will conclude with a final show at Puerto Rico’s El Patio on October 20.
Marley and co. are playing in support of his most recent solo album Brightside, which came out on April 18. Marley’s first new album in eight years features Trombone Shorty, Sheila E., Nikka Costa and Jake Shimabukuro. Ahead of the release, he dropped by Jimmy Kimmel to debut the track “Racism Is A Killa.”
Marley chose to record the album in 432hz, a few steps down from the standard musical tuning 440hz. “Regardless of what they say it does — it vibrates close to the frequency that human beings do, and it’s also used for meditation — if I didn’t feel how I feel, then I wouldn’t use it,” he told Billboard earlier this year. “This is the only frequency I’m using from now on.”
The group will embark on their tour just a week before releasing the first-ever vinyl issue of their 1988 album Conscious Party. The record was produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, members of Tom Tom Club and the Talking Heads’ rhythm section. It won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1989, and featured hits including “Tomorrow People” and “Tumblin’ Down.”
The new version included a track that had previously only been available on CD, “We A Guh Some Sum Weh.” A digital deluxe also comes complete with a “Tomorrow People” remix, a Bomb Squad edit of “Tumblin’ Down,” and a live version of “Lee And Molly” recorded at the Spectrum in Philadelphia in 1988.
