Twenty years after his self-titled debut album was released, Rufus Wainwright has announced a new tour to commemorate the success of the record and his sophomore album Poses. The Rufus Wainwright ‘All These Poses Anniversary Tour’ will feature the singer backed up by a full band — something audiences haven’t seen Wainwright do in years.
“A lot of the questions I was asking 20 years ago still haunt me today, though I may seem much more confident and experienced,” the singer said told Billboard. “Listening to this old material I’m reminded of how curious and affected I was by the mysteries of life back then. Funny how one totally changes and totally doesn’t at the same time.”
Once referred to as “the greatest songwriter on the planet” by Elton John, Rufus Wainwright is currently performing in Northern Stars, a live concert series in which the singer covers legendary Canadian artists like Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn. The artist will then premiere his second opera, Hadrian, in Toronto in October, followed by his this new US tour starting in November.
Speaking to Billboard about the forthcoming tour, Wainwright said: “[I’m] looking forward to singing the longing melodies of a boy with the voice of a grown man.”
