Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and Sir Ian McKellen are set to star in a new film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic Broadway musical Cats. The new film is to be directed by Tom Hooper, best known for directing the acclaimed, Oscar-winning The King’s Speech.

Cats is the fourth-longest running show in Broadway history and it features some of the best known songs from the stage, including ‘Memory’, made famous by Elaine Page. It has been translated into more than 20 languages across the world, grossing more than $340m to date.

It’s been adapted for the screen by Billy Elliot’s Lee Hall, while the team behind 2012’s major box office smash Les Miserables – Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Debra Hayward and Hooper – will produce the film.

Jennifer Hudson won an Academy Award in 2007 for her Dreamgirls role is reported to be taking on the role of Grizabella, the “glamour cat” in the new Cats movie, while the Swift, Corden and McKellen roles are being kept under wraps for the time being.

Production on Cats is set to take place later this year in the U.K., with more cast due to be announced. Lee Hall has adapted Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, which itself was based on the T.S. Eliot novel Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.

Cats marks Taylor Swift’s highest profile film credit to date. She previously acted in 2014’s adaptation of The Giver. Before that, she played a lovesick teenager in 2010’s Valentine’s Day and also leant her voice to the animated feature The Lorax.
