Thunderpussy have released a riotous video for ‘Powerhouse’, the lead single from 2019’s ‘Milk It’ EP. The video features Seattle based drag performer Cherdonna Shinatra as she literally reaches her breaking point. You can check the video out below.
Singer Molly Sides explains the idea behind ‘Powerhouse’, which features drums from Red Hot Chili Peppers Chad Smith, about her mother:
“[‘Powerhouse’] is an ode, an anthem to those who have been dealt a difficult hand in life but continue to persevere and push through. It’s a reminder that there are no limits, no boundaries for the strength and resilience of the feminine spirit. A spirit, a superpower that lives within us all. Pussy is Power.”
The ‘Milk It’ EP follows the release of Thunderpussy’s self-titled debut album last year, on which Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready lent guitar and production, calling them his “favourite new band – Live, they have an incredible energy with amazing musicianship. All four women are as talented as they come.”
The record snatched up over 4 million cumulative streams. In between electrifying gigs coast-to-coast, they garnered widespread acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR and Paste while simultaneously a heated trademark battle over their name incited national headlines – they continue to fight for the “power of the word ‘pussy’ and finally not classifying it as vulgar or weak,” as guitarist Whitney Petty says. In 2019, they inch closer to accomplishing this shared, crucial mission and are currently working on their second album.
Thunderpussy have also shared details of forthcoming North American dates. They play the following shows:
