The new one-day festival will take place on 2 May at Grounds at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, just outside of Los Angeles, and spans a number of legendary new wave, goth and post-punk outfits.

Joining the headliners is the Psychedelic Furs, Violent Femmes, English Beat, the Church, Public Image Ltd., Gary Numan, Berlin and Marc Almond.

Among the various veteran acts, the festival also includes some younger talent including TR/ST, Cold Cave, Black Marble, and She Wants Revenge.

Cruel World is the brainchild of promotional juggernaut Goldenvoice, who are responsible for Coachella, Stagecoach and Hangout, among others.

Tickets for Cruel World will go on sale this Friday, 14 February at 12 pm PST, while pre-sale begins on 13 February at 12 pm PST.

The Los Angeles area is in need of a star-studded festival after FYF was unceremoniously cancelled back in 2018. Cruel World takes advantage of a number of recent reunions including Bauhaus, who played their first shows together in 13 years last year and have announced a slate of festival dates and headlining shows including New York City on 26 June, Dallas on 23 July and Chicago on 25 July.

Meanwhile, Morrissey recently announced his new album, I am Not a Dog on a Chain, out 20 March, with Cruel World being the only tour date he’s confirmed.

Before they’re slated to play the BottleRock Festival in May, Blondie co-founders Debbie Harry and Chris have announced a string of ‘In Conversation’ shows in Germany and the UK starting 7 March. Each evening will centre around Harry and Stein’s respective books: Harry’s recent autobiography Face It and Stein’s two photo works Negative and Point Of View.

Stops include Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall and London’s Barbican Hall, where the two will delve into their five decades together as Blondie and their lives as creative partners.

Visit the festival’s official site for ticket details and full line-up.

Have any of the acts followed the papertrail to the actual people who own Goldenvoice and Cruel World – I suggest you do as quickly as possible.
