The Streets Confirmed As First Headliners Of Birmingham’s MADE Festival
Held at the UK city’s Sandwell Valley Country Park, the event will take place on July 31 next year.
The Streets have been announced as the headliners of MADE Festival 2021. The Mike Skinner-fronted project, whose acclaimed new mixtape None of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive was released last month, will top the bill at the Birmingham event on Saturday, July 31 next year.
Held at Sandwell Valley Country Park, the performance will serve as The Streets’ biggest hometown show to date. They were due to headline the festival in 2020, but it was cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis. The remaining headliners and further acts are set to be added to the line-up in the run-up to the MADE festival. Tickets are on sale now from the event’s official website, while bookings for this year can be transferred to 2021.
On Thursday (August 6), The Streets will perform a ticketed live-streamed show from London’s EartH venue in Hackney. Virtual attendees have been encouraged to add an optional donation to Skinner’s chosen charity, Show Racism The Red Card.
Ahead of the gig, Skinner has shared the video for the IDLES-featuring title track of his latest record. Directed by Rollo Jackson, the clip features both Skinner and IDLES frontman Joe Talbot.
The song, meanwhile, offers Skinner’s candid view on modern life and love, mixed in with his signature, cheeky wit.
“I don’t like my country, it’s more of an addiction/The way girls fixate and pore over lip gloss/I’m hard to love, I make idiot jokes/But those the hardest to love are those that need it the most,” opens the rapper.
Talbot jumps in on the second verse, with the determined lyrics: “None of us are getting out of this life alive/That’s why I don’t go gentle into that good night/That’s why I’m shining brighter than the brightest light/I twinkle like my blade in the belly of the right.”
None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive marks Skinner’s first full-length release in nearly a decade, following 2011’s Computers And Blues. The mixtape, which features a different artist collaboration on each of the 12 tracks, has received wide critical acclaim since its release in July. The Guardian declared it to be “A banging return,” adding that the guest list on the album (which includes Tame Impala, Dapz on the Map, Hak Baker, and Jimothy Lacoste) “is testament to Skinner’s impact.”
