The movement was founded in 2019 by Melia Clapton, wife of Eric, and describes itself as “a charitable movement aiming to raise awareness of abstinence-based recovery, tackle the stigma of addiction and help make treatment affordable to people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction.”

Wood’s friendship and musical connections with Clapton go back far into their careers, and their respective recoveries from drug abuse. In more recent years, Ronnie played at the 2010 edition of Eric’s Crossroads Guitar Festival near Chicago, jamming on “Five Long Years” and “Miss You” with Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang.

“I am proud to announce that I am now an ambassador for @turnup4recovery,” wrote Wood on social media yesterday (May 5). “Their mission is a subject very close to my heart and I am so honoured to become an ambassador for this brilliant organisation.

“@turnup4recovery bring people together through music to support recovery for addicts, and their friends and family,” he continued. “To become a part of that is my way of giving back, as I am so grateful for all the care and support I’ve received along the way, in my recovery.”

Turn Up For Recovery has staged some highly notable music events and other initiatives to aid and publicize its work. Last month, Wood released a new signed, limited-edition print in support of the movement. When I Take Care of Myself I Can Achieve Anything is the first in a series of Affirmation artworks that he has created.

Featuring the title phrase and signed by the Rolling Stones guitarist, solo musician and artist, the piece is available as an individually numbered edition of 500 at £399, of which 50% of the proceeds go to the charity. More information is at Ronnie Wood’s website.
