Roxy Music Share Televised ‘For Your Pleasure’ Performance From 1972
The glam-rock pioneers’ appearance on the BBC variety show ‘Full House’ is on YouTube for the first time.
Roxy Music changed the face of music with the March 23, 1973 release of sophomore album For Your Pleasure. Four months earlier, on Nov. 25, 1972, they gave the world a preview of that landmark work with a performance on the BBC variety show Full House.
Now, the group has shared footage of their performance of title track “For Your Pleasure” on YouTube for the first time. The rare video presents the band at their most haunting and charismatic, infusing their balladry with an alluring eeriness all their own. It arrives online in the leadup to the new 50th anniversary deluxe reissue of For Your Pleasure, due out Nov. 6 through Virgin EMI.

The release is available in multiple formats. There’s a 2LP edition with the remastered original album plus AIR Studios outtakes (including a limited edition Blue Pearl vinyl 2LP version). Also up for pre-order is a 3CD + DVD version with the original album, singles, and instrumentals; previously unreleased demos, rehearsal recordings, and live sessions; TV and live performances from 1972-1973; and an 116-page book with new essays and rare photography. Finally, the 2CD package has the original album, AIR Studios outtakes, singles, and BBC sessions, all of it showcased in a hardcover digibook with a new essay and previously unseen images.
For Your Pleasure was Roxy Music’s final album with co-founder Brian Eno, who went on to become one of the most acclaimed and influential figures in modern music, working as a producer, composer, and recording artist. Since its release, it has retained its reputation as a foundational classic in the realms of glam-rock and art-rock. In a 2019 retrospective review at Pitchfork, critic Rob Tannenbaum wrote that among their British rock peers, Roxy Music “most directly translated the radical, emancipating ideas of art-school into pop music. And For Your Pleasure, released in 1973, is their most art-school album, as well as their greatest.”
