BET will be honoring Master P at their 2020 Hip Hop Awards ceremony taking place on October 27. The rapper and businessman will be receiving the “I Am Hip Hop” award for his accomplishments across a decades-long career, including the founding of No Limit Records and his work on the reality series Growing Up Hip-Hop.

Master P, born Percy Miller, launched a record store and then his No Limit Records label in 1991 with $10,000 inherited from his grandfather.

The hip-hop and R&B label has included artists such as Kane & Abel, Snoop Dogg, Silkk the Shocker, Mystikal, and Soulja Slim. Since its inception, No Limit Records has sold over 100 million records. Master P’s son Romeo Miller also appeared on the label’s roster in addition to starring alongside his father in the Nickelodeon sitcom Romeo! that aired from 2003 to 2006. The show marked one of many Master P acting appearances, along with the films I Got the Hook Up, Soccer Mom, and Gone in 60 Seconds.

In addition to honoring Master P, the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards will continue to celebrate Black culture through music and express solidarity for Black Lives Matter and the #ReclaimYourVote campaign.

Previously announced nominees include DaBaby, leading the pack with 12 nominations followed by Roddy Ricch with 11. Megan Thee Stallion and Drake are tied for third, with 8 nominations each. While other top nominees include Future with 6 nods, Lil Baby with 4, followed by Beyoncé, DJ Khaled, Travis Scott, and Mustard with 3 nominations each.

Hosted by the 85 South Show, the BET Hip Hop Awards will feature appearances by Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Jhené Aiko, City Girls, and more.

The awards will air on October 27 at 9/8c on BET.
