In memory of the late artist’s birthday on 30 August, Nieves de Enero by the Godfather of the Corrido, Chalino Sánchez, is set for reissue. Featuring (AAA) lacquers cut from the original master tapes, this new reissue will be pressed on 140-gram vinyl.

Nieves de Enero was first released in 1992 on Discos Musart. This classic recording features norteño love ballads “Nieves de Enero” and “Florita del alma,” as well as some of Chalino’s best narcocorridos, including “El Crimen de Culiacán” and “Hermanos Mata.”

The album previously reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart, while the song “Alma Enamorada” peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart. The recording featured accompaniment by the band Los Amables del Norte.

The fifteen-track album includes the famous title track written by Mario Molina Montes and originally recorded in 1954 by actor/singer from the Golden Era of Mexican film Miguel Aceves Mejia, but it’s Chalino’s version that is most remembered. Other major hits from this album include norteño ballads “Florita del Alma” and the somber “Me Persigue Tu Sombra” (“Your Shadow Follows Me”), but the majority of this álbum features some of Chalino’s best corridos that tell some all-too-real tales, including “El Crimen de Culiacán,” “Hermanos Mata,” “Juan Ayón” and “Martin Félix.”

Chalino dared to create a new style of corrido music that created a wave of renewed interest in the genre. His voice was unique and untrained, but people connected with it. He was real and original, and fans eventually nicknamed him the “King of Corridos.” Towards the later part of his career, Chalino signed with Musart/Balboa Records where he recorded some of his greatest albums, Alma Enamorada and Nieves de Enero, which included massive hits, “Nieves de Enero,” “Alma Enamorada,” “Prenda del Alma,” “Los Chismes,” “El Pitallón,” “El Navegante,” “Una Tarde” and “El Pávido Návido” before his tragic death.

More than 30 years after his passing, the impact of the legendary Chalino Sánchez is still resonating. He is a true pop culture icon considered the Godfather of the Corrido. Music icons like Snoop Dogg have praised Chalino’s music on social media while fans constantly pay homage by creating events and celebrating the artist in various ways.
