Melissa Etheridge will return with her 15th studio album The Medicine Show on Concord on 12 April. The enduring rock-soul artist has shared its first single, ‘Faded By Design,’ already described by Rolling Stone as a “proud declaration of resilience.”
Etheridge says of the track and the upcoming album: “The sound of the song and the whole record is purposefully aimed at that ’90s rock sound. When rock was moody and fierce. ‘Faded’ is spot on a Melissa Etheridge song. You know it from the first few notes. I wrote it on my 12-string and kept it true to that sound.”
The new project saw her reunited with the esteemed producer John Shanks, known for his work with Keith Urban, Bon Jovi, Kelly Clarkson and others. The Medicine Show features 11 tracks which were recorded largely live in the studio, on material that addresses such universal themes as renewal, reconciliation, reckoning, compassion and healing. Tracks include ‘Shaking,’ ‘Here Comes The Pain,’ ‘Human Chain’ and ‘Last Hello,’ the latter written about the courage shown by the survivors of the Parkland school shootings.
The Grammy-winning artist — a fearless campaigner for human rights, LGBTQ issues, breast cancer awareness and alternative medical approaches — starts an extensive European tour tonight (25) in Luxembourg. The North American leg begins on 29 March in Bonia Springs, FL, with dates booked into July.
In a career of more than 30 years, Etheridge has sold some 25 million albums, with five platinum and three multi-platinum releases, 15 Grammy nominations and two wins. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and an Academy Award for ‘I Need to Wake Up’ from the climate change documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
