Metal titans Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony announced a concert marking the 20th anniversary of their 1999 live LP, S&M. The show, dubbed ‘S&M²’, is scheduled for Friday, September 6th, and will be the debut concert for the city’s Chase Center venue, a multi-purpose arena in San Francisco that will also be the new home of NBA champions the Golden State Warriors.

A Chase pre-sale runs from Tuesday, March 19th at noon through Thursday, 21 March at 11:59 a.m. PT. General tickets go on sale on Friday, 22 March at 10 a.m. PT.

“We’re honored to take part in the Grand Opening of the Chase Center in San Francisco as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of S&M,” the Bay Area metal band wrote on Instagram, shouting out the symphony and music director Michael Wilson Thomas. “Join us at what is sure to become a cultural landmark in the Bay Area for S&M².”

Composed by Michael Kamen, the original ‘S&M’ album was in part a tribute to late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton’s love of classical music. Going on to be certified 5x platinum, ‘S&M’ featured the fan favourite ‘No Leaf Clover’.

Full details on what the performance will entail exactly is yet to be determined. Further ticketing information for the San Francisco ‘S&M²’ can be found on Metallica’s official website.

In other news, Metallica‘s bassist Robert Trujillo has assured fans that the band’s next album will be out a lot quicker than the last two.

Fans had to wait five years for 2008’s Death Magnetic and eight years for 2016’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct but Trujillo confirmed the metal veterans have already begun “jamming” on new material.

“We have a zone we call ‘The Tuning Room’ which is a space where we can jam and warm up before the show. We’re always in there coming up with ideas and you may get a few seconds of an idea but everything is recorded, always. And then of course at home, everyone has got ideas,” Trujillo told The Music‘s podcast.

Death Magnetic was, for the most part, a collaborative effort”, he furthered. ‘Hardwired’ was more central to James’ [Hetfield] specific ideas and was also taking the spirit of what we had done on the previous record. I’m excited about the next record because I believe it will also be a culmination of the two records and another journey. There’s no shortage of original ideas, that’s the beauty of being in this band.”

Metallica recently wrapped a North American tour in support of Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, while a European leg launches on 1 May, in Lisbon, Portugal.
