Prog Pioneers Tangerine Dream Go Back To ‘Quantum Gate’
Progressive rock pioneers Tangerine Dream will release a new edition of their Quantum Gate album, first released in September 2017. It will appear on 20 April on Kscope Records as a two-CD version, on which the second disc is the 34-minute Quantum Key EP, which first emerged after the death of band leadetr Edgar Froese in January 2015.
The album was described by the label as “a brilliant contemporary updating of Tangerine Dream’s trademark sound of sequencer-driven ambient electronica.” Froese himself was involved in the early work on Quantum Gate with bandmates Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane. The material was based on the themes of quantum physics and philosophy.
The new package will be available as a two-CD digipack with an eight-page booklet. Tangerine Dream have marked the announcement of the new edition by releasing this new video of a studio performance of one of the album tracks, ‘Identity Proven Matrix.’

The album was recorded at Eastgate Studios, Vienna & Townend Studio in Berlin from August 2014 to June 2017. It was mixed by the group’s own Thorsten Quaeschning and Ulrich Schnauss. It was mastered by Birgir Jón ‘Biggi’ Birgisson at Sundlaugin Studio Reykjavík in Iceland, known for recordings by Sigur Ros, Jon Hopkins and Spiritualized.The striking artwork for the release was created by Froese’s widow Bianca Froese-Acquaye.
The group are also about to head out on European tour dates including two at London’s Union Chapel, with festivals to follow in the summer, as follows:
