The Verbier Festival and Deutsche Grammophon have announced the launch of Verbier Festival Gold – a joint label from the two classical music powerhouses. The new record label, featuring legendary performances from the Festival’s vast archive, will make the Verbier Festival experience more accessible to audiences around the world. Verbier Festival Gold launches with a performance of Verdi’s Requiem from Gianandrea Noseda followed by releases from Yuja Wang, Bryn Terfel and Kristóf Baráti.

Verbier Festival Gold features landmark recordings

The Verbier Festival has always been a pioneer in media, capturing landmark performances on audio and visual recordings. In 2020 the Festival had to reimagine its offering, due to the pandemic, and launched the Virtual Verbier Festival, in partnership with medici.tv and Deutsche Grammophon, to celebrate its extensive archive. This led to the digitisation of the Festival’s archive, which is currently underway, and the launch of Verbier Festival Gold, which will allow audiences around the world to enjoy the Festival’s exceptional recordings. The Verbier Festival and Deutsche Grammophon have previously enjoyed many successful collaborations and their new record label will establish a legacy beyond the physical Festival.

“It is with great pride that we announce the Verbier Festival Gold label with our friends at Deutsche Grammophon,” said Martin T:son Engstroem, Founder & Director of the Verbier Festival. “We have created many iconic memories with our community of artists in Verbier over the last 29 years, and we are honoured to share them now together with such a prestigious partner.”

Encapsulates the spirit of Verbier

Dr Clemens Trautmann, President Deutsche Grammophon, added, “Verbier Festival Gold is the latest chapter in a remarkable story of innovation and musical excellence at two renowned arts institutions. The new label’s launch releases and those to follow encapsulate the spirit of Verbier, where musicians gather in ideal conditions every summer to create unforgettable performances. It is a particular pleasure to see the prominent role played by members of Deutsche Grammophon’s family of artists in so many landmark concerts from the Verbier Festival. We’re delighted to help bring this wonderful resource of recordings to new audiences around the world.”

Gianandrea Noseda’s 2013 interpretation of Verdi’s Requiem, one of the most electrifying moments in the Festival’s history, will be the first release on Verbier Festival Gold. The HD audio recording will be available on 25 March, followed by a film release on 16 April available through Deutsche Grammophon’s video music service for classical concert streams, DG Stage.
