BLACKPINK continue to make history, after becoming the first-ever K-pop group to hit the 1 billion mark on Youtube for their ‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du’ video.

While Psy still holds the record as the first South Koreon artist to break into the 1 billion club back in 2012, never has a K-pop group earned the distinction.

First released on 15 June 2018, it took just under a year and a half for ‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du’ to reach the milestone.

The massively successful girl group celebrated on social media, thanking their fans, “BLINKS” on Twitter.

In August, ‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du’ became BLACKPINK’s first song certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. They are also the first K-pop girl group to be recognized by the RIAA. The group also performed the hit single during their debut at Coachella this past spring.

The trap-inflected song is also a confident anthem, as the girls flaunt their success and swagger, upping the ante on even some of the flashier K-pop videos. From animal cameos to riding atop of a diamond-encrusted tank, the ‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du’ video offers countless eye-popping visuals.

The group also made history earlier this spring when their video for ‘Kill This Love’ set the record for the most viewed YouTube Premiere event, earning 56.7 million views in its first 24 hours on the platform.

‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du’ first appeared as the lead single for the group’s debut Korean EP, Square Up, which was released on 15 June 2018.

BLACKPINK has plenty to celebrate this week, after taking home three awards at the 2019 E! People’s Choice Awards last night. The group won every category they were nominated for, including Best Group, beating out the Jonas Brothers, BTS, 5 Seconds of Summer, Panic! At The Disco, CNCO, Imagine Dragons and The Chainsmokers.

They also won The Music Video of 2019 for ‘Kill This Love’ as well as for The Concert Tour of 2019, with their BLACKPINK 2019 World Tour.
