Bobbie Gentry Collection ‘Highlights From The Capitol Masters’ Announced
The collection is drawn from all of her studio albums supplemented by the best rarities from the boxed set.
The huge acclaim for Bobbie Gentry’s 2018 boxed set The Girl From Chickasaw County has prompted the August 5 release of the new compilation ‘The Girl From Chickasaw County’ Highlights From The Capitol Masters.
After that eight-disc set was repressed three times and became a collector’s item, continuing demand for the work of this unique entertainer and distinctive songwriter leads to the new set, again compiled and produced by Andrew Batt. The collection is drawn from all of her studio albums supplemented by the best of the previously unreleased recordings from the Grammy-nominated boxed set. The Girl From Chickasaw County was named reissue of the year by both The Times and Mojo.
These include tracks from the “lost” jazz album The Windows Of The World, which was issued in a limited edition on vinyl for Record Store Day 2021; the deluxe edition of her classic album The Delta Sweete; other outtakes, demos, and rarities; and live performances taken from her BBC TV series.

Highlights From The Capitol Masters will also feature the original of “Ode To Billie Joe,” alternative versions of “Mississippi Delta,” “Touch Em’ With Love,” and her duet with Glen Campbell, “Let It Be Me.” Other standouts include “Mornin’ Glory” from The Delta Sweete, “Hushabye Mountain,” “Fancy,” and “Lookin In,” from her final album.
The new set also contains acoustic demos of originals such as “Hurry Tuesday Child” and “Seasons Come, Seasons Go,” unreleased tracks such as “Smoke” and “Joanne,” and covers of “Conspiracy of Homer Jones” and “God Bless The Child.” Some of the recordings have been remixed from the multitracks for this release, including “Caskette Vignette” and “Recollection.”
Highlights From The Capitol Masters reprises the boxed set’s specially commissioned cover illustration by David Downton, and the artwork for the upcoming collection also includes many of the rare and unseen photos included in that set.
