The jaunt kicks off in Annapolis on 21 September and concludes in Ridgefield, Connecticut, on 13 October.

Rick Wakeman has announced that he’ll head out on the road across North America later this year on the ‘Grumpy Old Rock Star’ tour.

The legendary keyboard maestro’s tour kicks off at the Maryland Hall For The Creative Arts in Annapolis on 21 September and brings the curtain down at the Playhouse in Ridgefield on October 13. According to a press release, the tour intends to “combine spellbinding piano music with side-splitting jokes and revealing insights into his 50-plus-year career.”

The statement continues to say: “Expect an evening of superb musicianship, featuring music from Yes, Rick’s own solo epics and early Bowie hits, plus fantastic arrangements of Beatles’ tunes, and much, much more, interspersed with knockabout – and sometimes bawdy – typically British humour.” Visit the artist’s official website for tickets and further information.

As uDiscover Music previously reported, Wakeman will play two nights at London’s Royal Festival Hall on July 13 and 14 prior to the ‘Grumpy Old Rock Star’ tour. For these two shows, he will be revisiting his epic live album Journey To The Centre Of The Earth.

The keyboard wizard recorded the album at London’s Royal Festival Hall in 1974 and he’s lined up the shows to mark the work’s 45th anniversary – and also to celebrate his 70th birthday.

Of these two nights, Wakeman says: “It will be very moving and nostalgic to once again walk out on to the stage where it all began.”

At the Royal Festival Hall, he will be joined onstage by The Orion Orchestra, The English Chamber Choir and The English Rock Ensemble, with special guest appearances from Alfie Boe and Robert Powell.

Wow! Sounds outstanding. Wish “Grumpy Old Rock Star” Tour of North America could find some additional dates in other parts of the country, like Florida.

Was lucky enough to see Mr. Wakeman perform in Orlando in 2016 on ARW Tour. Great concert.

Happy Birthday and Anniversary Mr. Wakeman. Enjoy the tour.
