The film, produced by UMG’s Polygram Entertainment, offers an intimate look at the life and legacy of Selena Quintanilla through never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, and heartfelt interviews with her family and bandmates.

According to an official press release, “Selena y Los Dinos takes audiences on a compelling journey through Selena’’ rise from a young girl in Corpus Christi to a cultural icon whose voice continues to resonate with fans around the world. The documentary, which also touches on issues of race and gender, paints a vivid portrait of Selena’s enduring influence, chronicling her career, her impact on Latin music, and the lasting imprint she left on both her community and the world.”

The film, produced alongside AMSI Entertainment and Motto Pictures, is mostly narrated by Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, who started her on the path to superstardom before she was killed in 1995.

Since its premiere, critics have lauded the documentary. The Hollywood Reporter praised the film for asserting Selena’s cultural significance, noting, “While Selena y Los Dinos spell out her legacy, it stands as a deeply affecting documentary that will undoubtedly resonate with her loyal fanbase.”

Similarly, IndieWire said that the film “is no mere tribute.” Rather, the review suggests, “it is a vibrant argument for Selena’s humanity, as well as her status as a legend.”

In other Selena news, last year, one of her signature albums, Amor Prohibido, received a re-release for a special 30th anniversary edition, both digitally and in physical formats.

The 30th anniversary edition, newly mixed and remastered, became available in Dolby Atmos/Spatial Audio.

The album, which arrived on vinyl for the first time ever, was available in three different formats. Additionally, fans could buy the album on CD and cassette.

Listen to the best of Selena.
