Gregg Allman Live DVD/CD Due In August
Rounder Records will release the live DVD and two-CD package ‘Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA’ in August. The performance by Allman and his eight-piece band was recorded in January, 2014 at the Grand Opera House in Macon, Georgia, the town where the story of the Allman Brothers Band began.
The upcoming release features 16 tracks, including Allman solo numbers such as ‘Queen Of Hearts’ and ‘I’m No Angel,’ time-honoured favourites from the ABB catalogue such as ‘Statesboro Blues,’ ‘Midnight Rider,’ ‘Melissa’ and ‘Whipping Post,’ and some cover versions. There’ll be two bonus tracks on the DVD, along with interview segments including ‘What Macon Was To Us’ and ‘Songwriting For The Allman Brothers.’
Allman followed the success of his autobiography, ‘My Cross To Bear,’ by being given the Living Legend award by Classic Rock magazine last November. He was recently the guest of honour at the 67th annual BMI/NAB Dinner. After being diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2007 and his successful liver transplant operation in 2010, Allman is also an active spokesman for the ‘Tune In to Hep-C’ campaign.
Gregg has a busy summer of live dates ahead, with his next show at the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga, TN, on June 12. He will co-headline some dates with the Doobie Brothers, and is currently making plans for a new solo record to follow 2011’s much-praised ‘Low Country Blues.’
