Denzel Curry, Nathaniel Rateliff Among Virtual Bonnaroo Performers
‘Virtual Roo-Ality’ streams September 24-26, with a star-studded lineup of live acts and archival sets.
While this year’s Bonnaroo festival was postponed and later canceled amid the coronavirus, a virtual edition will offer fans a packed weekend of music. Dubbed “Virtual Roo-Ality,” the three-night streaming event kicks off September 24 and features an impressive line-up of live talent, plus a trove of archival sets from past festivals, including the Beastie Boys’ final live performance in 2009.
Over 35 artists from a diverse array of genres will appear on the live-stream, including Denzel Curry, Nathaniel Rateliff, Charli XCX, and Ashley McBryde. Rising soul singer Devon Gilfillian will also perform, as will acclaimed British jazz artist Nubya Garcia. Additionally, appearances include Laura Jane Grace, Old Crow Medicine Show, and legendary film director, writer, and musician David Lynch. Additional programming will include a Sanctuary of Self Love panel, hosted by Paramore’s Hayley Williams, culinary content helmed by Big Freedia and Action Bronson, and late-night “Robe Rage” DJ sets by LP Giobbi, A-Trak, and Flamingosis.
Throughout the weekend, donations will be encouraged to a variety of causes, including the ACLU, voter registration organization HeadCount, and the Bonnaroo Works Fund, which seeks to foster community, creativity, and positive influence.
In June, alongside the cancellation of Bonnaroo 2020, organizers announced dates for next year’s festivities, which are confirmed for June 17-20, 2021 at Manchester, TN’s Great Stage Park. This year’s lineup was originally scheduled to include such anticipated acts as Tame Impala, Lana Del Rey, Tool, Lizzo, Glass Animals, The 1975, Run the Jewels, Brittany Howard, and Miley Cyrus, among others.
Inspired by the classic festivals of the 60s and 70s, Bonnaroo has become a summer institution for music fans all over the globe. Since 2002, its stages have hosted such legendary acts as Paul McCartney, JAY Z, Stevie Wonder, U2, Tom Petty, and Metallica.
