Latin Grammy winner Karol G reached a new career milestone over the weekend, as her reggaeton hit “Bichota” marked her fifth song to surpass over a billion views on YouTube. Directed by Colin Tilley (Halsey, Justin Bieber), the neon music video for the club banger was released in October 2020 and featured the Colombian star dancing in a number of settings – including jamming out with friends in a car.
In an interview with Billboard, Karol G shared that “Bichota” serves as “a moment of feeling sexy, flirtatious, daring, strong, empowered, and to a certain extent, [it] translates into personal motivation and self-confidence.” She continued, “We are all super ‘Bichotas’ inside. It’s about believing and working so that the rest of the world can see it too.”
Not only did “Bichota” earn Karol G a Latin Grammy in 2021 for Best Reggaeton Performance, but the song also marked the artist’s ninth No.1 single on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart and was her tenth song to break the Hot Latin Songs’ Top 10.
Karol G’s latest achievement arrives on the heels of her 2018 collaboration with Anuel AA, “Culpables,” which joined the Billion Views Club just days ago. The trap song marked the duo’s third collaboration to surpass a billion views, following 2019’s “Secreto” and 2020’s “China” (feat. Daddy Yankee, Ozuna, and J Balvin). The star also racked up more than a billion views for her 2021 “Tusa” collaboration with Nicki Minaj.
Throughout this year, a handful of well-known hits have joined the Billion Views Club, including Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” (1997) and Dr. Dre’s 1999 collaboration with Snoop Dogg, “Still D.R.E.” Last month, Sean Paul and Dua Lipa’s 2017 duet, “No Lie,” also surpassed the one billion mark.
Fresh off her appearances at Coachella last month, Karol G recently released her carefree springtime hit, “Provenza.” This fall, she will embark on her $trip Love tour across North America, which includes shows at NYC’s Madison Square Garden and two nights at Miami’s FTX Arena.
