The Police’s Greatest Hits album will be reissued on vinyl on April 15, to mark the 30th anniversary of its original release in 1992. It’s been remastered at Abbey Road and cut at half speed to ensure the ultimate sound quality, and will be available as two heavyweight black LPs with expanded artwork and packaging in a bespoke gatefold sleeve, enhancing the original artwork.
The compilation was a multi-platinum success around the world on first release, which was largely on CD. It was given a limited vinyl version at the time that has long been out of print, making the vinyl edition hugely sought-after by Police fans. Greatest Hits is a perfect retrospective of the chart-topping trio’s storied achievements on record, for new admirers, longtime devotees, and vinyl collectors.
The definitive collection features 16 tracks, of which no fewer than 14 were UK Top 20 hits and five were No.1s, “Message In A Bottle,” “Walking On The Moon,” “Don’t Stand So Close To Me,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” and “Every Breath You Take.”
The Police’s worldwide record sales stand at over 75 million worldwide. The trio of Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers also won two BRIT Awards, six Grammys and an MTV Video Music Award; in 2003, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their track record is all the more remarkable for the fact that The Police only recorded five studio albums, all but one of which made Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
All three former members maintain a busy schedule, with Sting’s My Songs tour, behind his new album The Bridge, continuing in March. He’ll play six sellout shows at the London Palladium from April 15-21, dates in Europe and North America, and will resume his residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, in June.
Summers’ one man multi-media music show will visit Germany, France, and Benelux in October, with his latest photo exhibition running from July onwards. Copeland’s Police Deranged show, with orchestral accompaniment, will play in North America and Europe, and he’ll also premiere his Witches Seed opera in Italy in July.
