Deep Purple’s 50th Anniversary series continues with a new record, Made In Japan. First released in 1972, Made In Japan is a live album recorded by Deep Purple over three nights in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan in August of that same year. Now, fans have the opportunity to revisit Made In Japan as never before with the deluxe rereleases of the record on vinyl, CD, and Blu-Ray. The reissues are due out on August 15, and are available for preorder now.

There are three different ways to experience the Made In Japan 50th Anniversary reissue. First, there is a truly staggering 10 LP set, which includes a new stereo mix of the original album, recordings of all three of the concerts performed in Japan 1972, and many rare single edits. The 10 LP box set also includes a 60-page booklet with new, updated liner notes and a replica of the original tour poster. Second is the five CD and Blu-Ray set, which, in addition to the new stereo mixes and newly remixed recordings of the original concerts, includes Dolby ATMOS mixes. The CD set also includes a 40-page booklet with updated liner notes, rare single edits, and a tour poster replica. Finally, a 2LP version preserves the original album but boasts a new mix.

As Deep Purple came to global fame in the early 1970s, they became especially known for their live act, so much so that a whole market of bootleg recordings popped up. Though the band had recorded one live album before—1969’s Concerto For Group And Orchestra—the decision to record Made In Japan was a rather spontaneous one. Made In Japan ultimately proved to be a massive success both critically and commercially. The live recording of “Smoke On The Water,” originally released on their 1972 studio album Machine Head, helped the song chart at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track remains the band’s signature song, and the band went on to release dozens more live albums. Among Deep Purple’s prolific career, Made In Japan remains a high point.
