Sam Hunt Hits New Chart Milestone With 2014 Debut ‘Montevallo’

Sam Hunt, one of country music’s biggest new stars of recent years, has reached a new milestone with his debut album Montevallo. The set has logged its 200th consecutive week on the Billboard 200, a sequence dating back to 15 November 2014, when it debuted and peaked at No. 3.

The album, which is currently triple platinum in the US and platinum in Canada, contained no fewer than five singles, all of which went at least platinum in America and four of which reached No. 1 on the country airplay chart. ‘Leave Your Light On,’ ‘Take Your Time,’ ‘House Party’ and ‘Make You Miss Me’ all hit the airplay summit; the first three of those were also No. 1s on the Hot Country chart.

To put the achievement in context, Billboard reports that Montevallo is only the ninth country album to reach the 200-week marker on the Billboard 200. All of the previous eight titles come from the modern-day country era. The longest-runner among them is the Zac Brown Band’s major label studio debut of 2008, The Foundation, which logged no fewer than 294 consecutive weeks, well over five and a half years.

Taylor Swift is next on that list with her eponymous 2006 debut album, which recorded 275 weeks. She’s one of three superstars with two titles among the nine honoured releases, also finishing with a 255-week run for Fearless. Garth Brooks has with 224 weeks for both No Fences and his self-titled 1989 debut, while Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party has 232 weeks to its name and his 2011 set Tailgates and Tanlines has 214. Florida Georgia Line’s Here’s To The Good Times is the other album on the list with 259 weeks.

Montevallo spends its 200th week on the Billboard survey by dipping 105-119. Hunt enjoyed his latest country No. 1 in 2017 with ‘Body Like A Back Road’ and released his most recent singe, ‘Downtown’s Dead,’ in May.
