BTS helped The Late Late Show celebrate its 1,000th episode last night (December 8) with a special performance of its record-breaking single “Butter”.

The rendition of the award-winning and Billboard Hot 100-topping track was recorded during the group’s recent trip to Los Angeles, which also saw them perform “Permission To Dance” on the show and sit down for an interview with host James Corden.

The seven-member boyband danced around the studio and between the audience as the song started, before ending up on a light-up dancefloor in the middle of the room. During a dance break, members Jimin, V, Jin, and RM showed off their individual dance moves, with Jin recreating some of the choreography from his viral solo song “Super Tuna.”

BTS’ LA trip began with the group winning three awards at the 2021 American Music Awards, including Favorite Pop Song for “Butter,” Favorite Pop Duo/Group, and Artist Of The Year. Its victory in the latter category marked the first time an Asian artist had won the award.

“Seven boys from Korea united by a love for music met the love and support from all the ARMYs all over the world,” rapper RM said while collecting Artist Of The Year. “This whole thing is a miracle. Seriously, we’ll never take this for granted. Thank you so much.”

The group also held four sold-out shows at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium between November 27 and December 2, becoming only the second artist after The Rolling Stones to hold their own concert at the venue. According to Billboard, the gigs are the sixth-highest grossing in over 30 years, grossing $33.3 million.

“Butter”, meanwhile, continues to dominate, being celebrated in end-of-year lists from the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, Consequence Of Sound, and more, and was named Record Of The Year at Variety’s Hitmakers ceremony. Following earlier remixes – including one featuring Megan Thee Stallion – it has also been given a new “holiday remix,” which was released last week (December 3).
