Massive Attack have announced details of a UK and Ireland arena tour to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their classic album Mezzanine. Tickets go on sale on 2 November at 10am and you can buy them and find out further information via the band’s official website.
Last month, the trip-hop legends announced a special edition re-release of their landmark 1998 album, which is due for release on 16 November. The Bristol band’s classic record, which was their third studio album and featured such singles as ‘Teardrop’ and ‘Angel’, has been remastered for the new release and will be available in both CD and extended box set formats.
Now, the band have revealed that they’ll be taking the record out on the road once again for ‘Mezzanine XX1’ – which they describe as “a totally new audio / visual production featuring Elizabeth Fraser and designed by Robert Del Naja with collaborators to be announced at a later date”. The show aims to re-imagine Mezzanine using “custom audio reconstructed from the original samples and influences.”
Robert Del Naja added: “It’s going to be a one off piece of work; our own personalised nostalgia nightmare head trip.”
Marking the 20th anniversary of its release, the special edition box set of Mezzanine will include a book which features exclusive images by Robert Del Naja and Nick Knight. The remastered album will be spread over two pieces of coloured vinyl, while a third disc will feature previously-unheard Mad Professor remixes from the original 1998 sessions. The 2xCD version will also include those Mad Professor remixes, and will be presented in a reproduction of the original ‘Mezzanine’ digipack.
