The lavish, multi-format reissue of Guns N’ Roses’ game-changing 1987 debut album Appetite For Destruction has sent it back into the top ten on both sides of the Atlantic, for the first time since its original release.

The album is newly available in a wide variety of formats, including a 4CD/1Blu-ray Audio  Super Deluxe Edition, 2CD  Deluxe and 2LP 180g heavyweight vinyl versions, a single CD remaster and via digital download and streaming.

Most expansive of all — and described as Universal Music Enterprises’ most elaborate box set ever — is the Appetite For Destruction: Locked N’ Loaded Edition Box Set, which includes 4CDs, Blu-ray, seven 12” LPs, seven 7”s, a hardbound book and an ephemera box, all housed in a custom 12” x 12” x 12” solid-wood box.

G N’ R fans had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this first-ever remastered edition of the landmark release, and were hot off the mark when the multiple versions were released on 29 June. Appetite re-enters the Billboard 200 chart dated 14 July at No. 10. It hit No. 1 on that chart in August 1988, nearly a year after its debut.

As billboard.com reports, all versions of  the album are combined for tracking and charting purposes. In the week ending 5 July, it logged combined units of 33,000 in the US, a week-on-week increase of  1,541 percent. The previously unreleased version of ‘Shadow Of Your Love,’ which was promoted to radio, reached No. 5 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart.

In the UK, the album re-charted at No. 6, just one place below its original peak. That week at No. 5, in July 1989, took the album even longer to achieve than its American gestation, coming almost two years after its UK debut. The current showing on the Official Charts Company survey is its 16th week in the top ten, 47th in the top 40 and 272nd in the top 100. Appetite was last in the UK top 40 in July 1992.
