Stevie Wonder Announces Summer Vegas Shows
Stevie Wonder has announced a handful of summer dates at the Park MGM casino-resort in Las Vegas as part of a limited concert series, “Stevie Wonder Song Party: A Celebration of Life, Love and Music”.
The 68-year old soul icon will play five shows at the Park Theater starting 3 August at the 5,300-seat venue formerly known as the Monte Carlo, with tickets going on sale 21 May.
For those who can’t make it to Sin City, Wonder will also play two shows in Atlantic City and two shows in National Harbor, Maryland. The short tour concludes 1 September at the MassMutual Center at MGM Springfield in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Wonder recently premiered his “Song Party” concept at a private performance at the Peppermint Club in Los Angeles to celebrate his 68th birthday, that featured surprise performances from Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino), Jessie J and former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland.
During the festivities, Wonder also referenced his forthcoming studio album, Through the Eyes of Wonder, that’s said to be due later this year and teased a future collaboration with Glover.
Given the theme of the concert series, Wonder also shared his personal sentiments with the audience saying:
“At a time where the world seems so asleep, it’s great to know that people are awoke, and that’s every one of every ethnicity. We still stand strong as human beings trying to make the best of this because [being] positive will win in the end.”
The Motown legend hasn’t performed a full-fledged tour since his 2015 and 2016 run to celebrate his iconic album, Songs in the Key of Life, but had participated in a number of festivals and charity events.
