With oversight from the band and co-producer Ken Scott, these 50th anniversary reissues have been remastered at half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, resulting in a clean and accurate sound.

1974’s Crime Of The Century was the band’s third LP and their commercial breakthrough, introducing them into the UK top five and U.S. Billboard top 40 album charts for the first time. The album has hit singles in both the UK and US, including “School,” “Dreamer,” and “Bloody Well Right.” The album featured such key songs by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson as their first UK hit single “Dreamer,” which reached No.13 early in 1975, while “Bloody Well Right” made the U.S. pop top 40.

Crime Of The Century was also Supertramp’s first record to feature drummer Bob Siebenberg (at the time credited as Bob C. Benberg), brass and woodwind player John Helliwell, bassist Dougie Thomson, and co-producer Ken Scott. The album was recorded at several London studios, including Trident and The Who’s Ramport Studios. While recording the album, Davies and Hodgson recorded approximately 42 demo songs, from which only 8 were chosen to appear on the album.

Several of those scrapped tracks would appear on 1975’s Crisis? What Crisis?, which was released just 13 months after Crime Of The Century. Now regarded by many as the bridge from their earlier prog records to their more commercially successful period, the album was written as the band worked to keep up with their newfound success. The hard work paid off: Globally, both records have sold millions and been certified Diamond, Platinum, and Gold in multiple countries.
