The 1975 Cancel All Tour Dates For 2021, Amid Ongoing Pandemic

The 1975 had a bittersweet announcement for fans today. Posting a long statement to Twitter, the British group shared that they would be canceling all tour dates for 2021, as the coronavirus continues to spread across the globe.

On a brighter note, however, fans can expect new music from the group. In the same post, the group confirmed that they are currently working on a follow-up to last year’s Notes on a Conditional Form.

“These are incredibly difficult times for a lot of people, and until we can be sure that we will be able to play shows in a way that is safe for our fans and crew, we have decided the best course of action is to cancel our touring so that, where possible, everyone can get their tickets refunded sooner rather than later,” the band wrote.

They continued, “We’re currently making a new album and look forward to seeing you all at a show as soon as it is safe to do so.”

The 1975 was slated to play a slew of rescheduled European tour dates, beginning in February. In addition to the 17-date run, the band was planning to headline a massive, one-day event at London’s Finsbury Park in July, while they were also on the line-ups at several major festivals, including Bonnaroo and Outside Lands.

Yesterday, offering fans a hint at what’s to come, frontman Matty Healy shared photos to Instagram, captioning “very excited about new music in the coming months with some brilliant artists (thank you to them!).”

Released in May, Notes on a Conditional Form was met with wide critical acclaim and ranked on a variety of Best of 2020 lists, including those from Complex, the NME, Alternative Press, and Stereogum. The 1975’s fourth studio album was also a commercial success, debuting at the top of the UK charts, and at No.4 in the US.
