After announcing his collaborative film with IMAX, Jesus Is King back in September, Kanye West has shared the official trailer for the highly anticipated film.
For the past month, the rapper-mogul has been hosting one-off screenings for the film, that will accompany the release of his forthcoming album, Jesus Is King. While the album was initially scheduled to drop on 27 September, it’s still yet to be released, although Kanye previewed the new material during two free concerts at Detroit’s Fox Theatre and in the Auditorium Theater of Chicago’s Roosevelt University back in September.
The film is to be released exclusively in limited IMAX theatres in the US on Friday, 25 October and tickets are on sale today. The trailer also features short, gospel rendition of ‘Say You Will’ (off his 808s & Heartbreak album) with new lyrics and finishes with a biblical quote from the New Testament Book of Mark.
Directed by Nick Knight, Jesus Is King captures Kanye’s famous Sunday Service performance in the Roden Crater at artist James Turrell’s never-before-seen installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert.
“This one-of-a-kind experience features songs arranged by West in the gospel tradition along with new music from his forthcoming album Jesus Is King – all presented in the immersive sound and stunning clarity of The IMAX Experience,” reads the official trailer description.
While there is no official release date for the new album, Kanye told the crowd at a listening session at George Washington University in Washington DC on 12 October, that the album is expected to be released on 25 October, “if he likes it by then,” reportedComplex.
The Chicago MC is also reportedly still tweaking the album, as tracks would change slightly at different listening sessions. There have also been photos and videos emerging on social media, showing Kanye and collaborators like Pusha-T working on new material for the album.
