Karol G crossed off yet another new milestone achievement in her career, becoming the first woman to replace herself at No.1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart (dated May 14). “Provenza,” which debuted on the May 7 chart at No.2, trades places with “Mamiii,” with Becky G.

The track took top Stremaing Gainer honors, with a 25% gain to 13.7 million U.S. streams generated in the week ending May 5, according to Luminate, enough to secure its command on Latin Streaming Songs for a second week.

“Provenza’s” arrival in the runner-up slot on Hot Latin Songs made the artist only the second woman to hold the top two positions simultaneously, following Selena in 1995 with “Tú Sólo Tú” and “I Could Fall in Love,” at No.1 and No.2, respectively, for six nonconsecutive weeks. Now, “Provenza” hitting No.1 marks the first time that a woman has replaced herself at No.1 since Hot Latin Songs launched in 1986.

If that’s not enough, reached yet another new career milestone earlier this month, as her reggaeton hit “Bichota” marked her fifth song to surpass over a billion views on YouTube. Directed by Colin Tilley (Halsey, Justin Bieber), the neon music video for the club banger was released in October 2020 and featured the Colombian star dancing in a number of settings—including jamming out with friends in a car.

In an interview with Billboard, Karol G shared that “Bichota” serves as “a moment of feeling sexy, flirtatious, daring, strong, empowered, and to a certain extent, [it] translates into personal motivation and self-confidence.” She continued, “We are all super ‘Bichotas’ inside. It’s about believing and working so that the rest of the world can see it too.”

Not only did “Bichota” earn Karol G a Latin Grammy in 2021 for Best Reggaeton Performance, but the song also marked the artist’s ninth No.1 single on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart and was her tenth song to break the Hot Latin Songs’ Top 10.
