Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘deja vu’ Surpasses Two Billion Streams on Spotify
It’s her fourth song to achieve the milestone, joining ‘driver’s license,’ ‘traitor,’ and ‘good 4 u.’

Olivia Rodrigo’s 2021 hit “deja vu” has surpassed two billion streams on Spotify. It’s the pop star’s fourth song to achieve the milestone, joining “driver’s license,” “traitor,” and “good 4 u.”
The follow up to Rodrigo’s record-breaking debut single “driver’s license,” “deja vu” was recorded in 2020 and released on April 1st, 2021. Like “driver’s license,” the song was written by Rodrigo and Dan Nigro—the two completed the track over the course of a single day in August 2020. After its release, Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, and St. Vincent also received writing credits for the track’s interpolation of Swift’s 2019 song “Cruel Summer.”
Upon its release, “deja vu” debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Rodrigo the first artist in history to debut their first two solo singles within the chart’s top 10. The track is currently certified 4x platinum by the RIAA. A music video for the track, directed by Allie Avital and starring Rodrigo and Talia Ryder, premiered alongside the track. It has since garnered nearly 550 million views on YouTube.
Speaking to the inspiration behind the track in 2021, Rodrigo told People: “I get déjà vu all the time. So I thought it would be a cool play on words to use déjà vu as a metaphor for this very universal thing that happens when you break up with someone and they get with somebody else, and see them living the life that you lived.”
Rodrigo released her most recent album, GUTS, in 2023—she released a deluxe edition with four additional tracks, GUTS (spilled), in 2024. In support of the album, she embarked on a world tour which extended into 2025. A documentary on the tour premiered on Netflix in late 2024. At this year’s Glastonbury Festival in the UK, Rodrigo was also one of the headlining acts, and invited The Cure’s Robert Smith onstage for a rendition of the band’s “Just Like Heaven.”
