“We see this record as an open invitation to be a part of what we’re doing—it came from wanting to be the hope we believe people need right now, as well as the hope that we need for ourselves,” Tanya Trotter said in a statement. “One of our main intentions with this album is to inspire people to share themselves with others, and open themselves up to the possibility of being loved,” Michael Trotter Jr. added.

Plus One is led by the single “Carried Away,” out now. “In a moment where we’re overstressed, where marriages are barely hanging on by a thread, this word that we’ve lost contact with is ‘devotion,’” Michael Trotter told Rolling Stone of “Carried Away.” “This song is about letting go and getting carried away with the one you love. I was like, ‘This is country music, and these three chords and the truth might be too much truth.”

Plus One was mainly produced by Michael Trotter and recorded at the acclaimed FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The husband and wife duo worked with their longtime live band to build a sound that touches on genres from bluegrass to classic country to pop and beyond. They also worked with producers like Jonathan Singleton (Luke Combs, Chase Rice), John Shanks (Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow), and Jesse Frasure (Jelly Roll, Kelsea Ballerini).

In addition to “Carried Away” the album includes “Love Like Whiskey,” co-written by Miranda Lambert; “Called You By Your Name,” a track inspired by the Black gospel tradition of shout music; and “Drink From Me,” a collaboration with guitarist Billy Strings.

Plus One follows 2023’s Lover’s Game. One standout from that album, “Blank Page,” received a Grammy nomination for Best American Roots Song while The War and Treaty were nominated for Best New Artist.

After spending 2024 performing with Chris Stapleton, Zach Bryan, and the Rolling Stones, in 2025, the duo will embark on the Plus One Tour. Those dates kick off March 26 in Minneapolis and conclude June 19 in Bristol, Tennessee. Along the way, The War and Treaty will play to audiences at New York City’s Irving Plaza, The Howard Theatre in DC, The Troubadour in Los Angeles, The Kessler Theater in Dallas, and more.
